This guide introduces Favorability, explains how it differs from traditional sentiment analysis, and highlights its functionality within the PeakMetrics platform. Learn how Favorability provides more accurate and nuanced insights for your analyses.
What is Favorability?
For instance, in the example “The Dolphins killed the Bills”, a traditional sentiment analysis model might classify this as negative due to the aggressive language ("killed"). However, favorability recognizes the statement as favorable for the Dolphins, as it indicates a win or success, and unfavorable towards the Bills, as it indicates a loss. Favorability, therefore, corrects these types of inaccuracies by factoring in the intended outcome or context rather than just the tone of the language used.
Favorability allows for more nuanced and relevant insights, especially when sentiment misinterpretations could lead to flawed conclusions.
Functionality Overview
PeakMetrics assigns “favorable,” “unfavorable,” or “neutral” tags immediately surrounding an entity. This is done by manually tagging mentions from a specific perspective and training a classifier to automatically tag mentions moving forward.
